The National Gardens Scheme started in 1927 and raises money for nursing, caring and gardening charities through the opening of private gardens to the public.

Every year NGS gardens across England and Wales welcome over half a million visitors to about 3,600 gardens.  Most are privately owned gardens, often quite small, and open just a few times each year.  Some open as part of a group which gets the whole community involved.

Each year £2 million is raised for the charities and to date over £45 million has been raised.

The full list of gardens open each year is published in The Yellow Book, with smaller versions published for each county.  You can get a free copy of the Devon leaflet by sending a C5 stamped address envelope to us at the address given on the contact page.
